There were perfect Red John characters viewers suspected. I am watching it again now on Prime. In the end I think the story stands on its own, without Red John. Only real question is why he never killed Patrick Jane

Ummm, I noticed. I watched it years later knowing who red john was by a YouTube video. Only thing I knew before going in. I was shocked to see Sheriff in episode 2 of Season 1. What???? Never mentioned again until seasons later when Jane produced a narrowed list of suspects. Didn't make sense why Sheriff was even on list. The producers just chose the most unlikely person.
