@agewellwithdrstep: Doctors make this mistake more often than we want to admit. I know I have. I changed my practice so that any new symptom starts with checking the medication list because mistaking side effects for new diseases leads to prescribing cascades where one drug causes another. If you develop a new symptom, ask your doctor if it could be a medication side effect before adding another pill. #AgewellwithDrSteph #PrescribingCascade #MedicationSafety #Polypharmacy #PatientAdvocacy Sources: Growdon ME et al. Why don't docs look for the cause rather than prescribing meds

Why would we have to ask them to do that? They always ask me to fill out a form listing all the medications I take. Do they not automatically do that?

This happened to me, but they ordered tons of testing that was unnecessary and time-consuming inexpensive and it was just the side effect of my medicine causing me stomach problems. They never look at the prescription side effects first.

My husband has been on Amliodipine for years & his legs are swollen badly, & the doctor did put him on diuretics. It's not helping & he also has polycystic kidney disease gFR of 28. What medication can he take that's like amliodpine that won't harm his kidneys ?? I have thought for a long time it's his bp medication.
