As a host, I would NEVER let my friends help. As a guest, I would NEVER not help

If I’m a guest I always offer to help clean or I’ll clean but then as a host I’m always declining help lol

in my house, proper etiquette when going to a dinner party at someone’s house is to argue with the host when they insist they don’t need help cleaning up - by the time the argument is over, i’m halfway through the dishes

Growing up my mom did absolutely teach me to help clean up when we had dinner at someone else’s home. HOWEVER, now that I’m an adult I NEVER let my guests help and I turn down all offers. So, I dunno. In my mind, my guests don’t have to help. But if I am the guest? I’m offering and helping.

I am Trini and no one leaves until my kitchen/dining is back to normal. I don't even have to ask. That's our culture. I actually relax after dinner

Hey so culture and community is subjective. What is considered rude in one culture is polite in another. This is true worldwide. There is no “wrong” way to have a culture:community. Your culture is not any more “correct” than another.

dinner table is cleared before dessert and then that cleared up and we have tea and the very most the host will have to clean up a few cups

No I’m the host, I will clean up. I will leave the dishes to spend the evening with you without putting you to work.

In my culture it is rude to let guests help! I’d be mad even at my closest friends if they tried washing my dishes!! You want to pay it forward you host at your home sometime, or send something nice (mostly food but could be anything) afterwards, but cleaning my place is rude!

But they are my guest? If it’s a family dinner they can go nuts and help me out but if I am putting on an event, I don’t expect my guests to do anything except arrive on time and tell me I cook good.
