I love that they added Carl. A lot of that part of that book was inner dialogue and Carl became a way for it to happen so the audience could hear it.. Same with the video recording scenes.

As someone doing my master’s thesis on fiber arts, which was originally on quilting specifically, the idea of a quilt made collaboratively by people all around the world to be sent into space with the team that has all the hopes of humanity on their shoulders makes me very emotional

Not sure if anyone caught this but: Rocky's puppeteer/voice actor, James Ortiz, shows up in the interview that Grace is watching about the discovery of the petrova line in the first flashback (i think he's the interviewer?). This is also presumably why that specific voice was in the Hail Mary's text to speech soundbank for Rocky to use.

Stomping during a question!! Eridean is a strictly tonal language so they can’t use an upward intonation to indicate a question, so having a physical indicator is brilliant

I remember telling my friend who hadn't read the book how carl literally is a meaningless no name character in the book, but the actor is so good they ended up with this larger role, it was a fun surprise when watching the movie plus who doesn't love that guy

this might be wrong but i’m pretty sure in japanese adding “か” (ka) at the end of a sentence is usually what signifies a question, which is what rocky’s “question” reminded me of a lot

The “Question?” Thing is a thing in Japanese too! Most questions end in a “ka?” Sound which indicates a question.
