@arjay_mccandless: SQL vs NoSQL Yes I know there are MANY SQL and NoSQL databases which have many differences. These are some of the most common ones and the trade-offs that come with them. #systemdesign #coding #programming #softwareengineer

Keep in mind that some orgs at Amazon now require approvals from upper management to use a SQL database lol

Just use postgres, and if you really need non relationship data shove it into a jsonb column.

still very much a junior dev in a not very tech savvy org but I wrote part of an assignment on this choice. Basically came to the conclusion of unless you need something specific about nosql you use SQL. Reasons to have nosql came to having massive (and mostly unstructured) data, needing rapid change or requiring the intricacies of other nosql DBs like a graph DB.

With AWS DSQL, I am not sure why you wouldn’t select postgresql these days. Completely serverless.

I think the best way to choose is to understand what you are trying to build.

I feel like the decision is baked right into the names. If I need to think of my data in terms of relationships, relational DBs are always the way to go. There's no clever technology that works around the fundamental need to scale and retrieve your data based on complex relationships.
