Throw a ball, a frisbee, or a squeaky toy, and you’ll see his eyes light up like pure happiness. But give him a quiet moment… and he’ll melt into you like he’s been yours forever. He’s trying so hard. He walks nicely on leash. He takes treats with the softest manners. He already knows commands. He wants to connect. He wants to belong. But the shelter is loud. Overwhelming. Unpredictable. Playgroups have been a little too much for him, so he’s been spending time with calmer dogs while he builds his confidence. And watching him slowly learn to feel safe again… it’s beautiful. And heartbreaking. Because dogs like Mattel don’t need fixing. They just need a chance. He isn’t “too much.” He isn’t “difficult.” He’s a soft-hearted boy who feels everything deeply… and is still choosing to trust anyway. But time in the shelter doesn’t heal dogs like him. It wears them down. Mattel is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and completely ready for his forever home. He just needs someone to see him… before it’s too late.
