@sewingwiththewaves: My stretcher bars are always tight when I start and they get loose quick. I redo to tighten. What am I doing wrong? Also I’m going to bead the eyes. Will that look ok? #needlepointtiktok #needlepointforbeginners #needlepointcanvas

it’s from the continental stitch! try basket weave without being too tight

idk and i’m not a needlepoint girlie but i am a crochet girlie so im wondering if you could block it??? try steaming with an iron or get it wet and stretch it back out in perfect position and let it dry like that

You could be pulling the thread too tight! Continental is also unfortunately known for causing warping (coming from a stitcher who ONLY used continental for 6 years and in hand stitches) I recently taught myself basketweave and unfortunately everyone is right that it fixes most problems

Now this is a conspiracy I just came up with, but I have a canvas from needlepoint and chill, as well, and even on the bars, it is HORRIBLY warped. I wonder if some of the canvas they used was not great quality or something🤔

Correct me if I’m wrong but is the warping ok because it will be blocked with a finisher? I also have this problem

Tacks go in tape, not in the mesh!! It’ll help a lot. Definitely add some more tacks too. Sincerely, a stitcher that pulls thread like it’s a dumbbell

You need more tacks. Stretch the canvas as tightly as you can as you put in the tacks. Your tacks should be 1-1.5” apart. Start in the center and work out, putting in tacks on opposite sides as you go. Your canvas should be drum tight. You’ll be much happier with your stitching. 😺

mine warp when i hold it a certain way. sometimes i grip onto the canvas rather than the bars itself and my fingers push so hard it warps

I think mine warps bc I hold the actual canvas and don’t just hold the stretcher bars or use a stand. Stitch after stitch the pressure from my hand loosens the tension on the bars.

I make sure my hands don’t touch the canvas bc the bars are thin I used to slightly hold the bottom left of the canvas and it warped it but not it doesn’t

Maybe try more tacks along with tightness. I’d have 1-2 more in the blank spaces.

You may just have to block it when your done with it.

It's bc you're either using continental, the tacks aren't right enough on the bars, or the stitches tension isn't around the same across the canvas. Either way, you can block it and fix!

Maybe the tension of your stitches combined with the type of stitches? As a knitter and now needlepointing I’ve noticed the way you pull your stitches is very comparable

Just echoing everyone else! Either how you’re holding it or from continental or both. Mine always warp anyway because of how I hold it so I stitch mostly in hand and just block it when I’m done!

Because your canvas isn’t taut. Tacks should be 1 inch apart and the canvas should be very tight. Otherwise there is no point to having it on bars.
