“It’s always been that way” look at the housing prices and cost of living compared to today’s wages vs 50 years ago. It IS that bad. In my country food prices have gone up 30% alone the past couple years. Wages have not.

I’m 43. My cat is almost 17. When I got him, my rent was $600 for a 1 bed loft/ 1.5 bath apartment. I had a $200/month car payment. My student loan was almost paid off (at $50/month). I made $13/hour. I went to concerts, went out with my friends, and bought clothes for fun. Yeah, I was paycheck to paycheck, but I could just stay home and not shop for a few weeks and I could take a trip. I want my 2009 quality of life back because what do you mean my $33/hour job was barely enough to scrape by? $1600 rent, groceries $400/month, $350 electric bills in the summer, and $5/gallon gas.

the only time I remember my family and friends families working 2nd jobs was to help pay for a vacation or something like that. those 2nd jobs were temp jobs not another full time job.

Let’s see, my late Grandfather worked in the mines and had 2 part time jobs. 4 kids. My father in the 60s into the 80s had a full time job and a part time job with 3 kids. It wasn’t until all 3 kids were old enough that mom could get a job that he could quit the part time job. We took 1 vacation at the beach every year. Usually in a tent. Always used cars where he replaced engines and transmissions.

People have been working multiple jobs and side gigs for almost 100 years. My dad had 2 jobs, both grandfather's had multiple jobs, and my great grandfather dad had a job and ran his own farm.

in 2013 I bought a condo by myself while working for $14/hr!! I make $21/hr now and have a dual income from my husbands salary. We had to file bankruptcy this year and start over.

Since forever. GM staggered shifts in the 30s so guys got off first shift at ford and worked second at GM. The boomers you talk about worked more hours without a cellphone and shorter breaks. They produced more per hour and worked more hours
