Neurodivergent cleaning hacks are SO important. I hate doing dishes and I don’t have a dishwasher. But I do it in stages bc I can only clean dishes when I’m already in the kitchen. So I let them pile a little. Then I’ll fill the sink and let them soak. And then I’ll wash them as something else is cooking. That process might take 2-3 days. But that’s how they get done. And that’s better than not doing it!

i call it "reducing friction." identify the pain points and figure out how you can mitigate them. i kept not vacuuming bc the vacuum was kept upstairs, and i wouldn't want to go up there to get it, but if i kept it downstairs i'd never vacuum upstairs. so i got a second vacuum. i kept not going for walks bc when it was time to put on my walking shoes, i'd have to go all the way to the other side of the house and upstairs just to get a pair of socks, so i moved the socks to be stored next to the shoes. i know a bunch of people will hear these things and think "omg that's so dumb, why don't you just..." but the thing is, trying to "just" resulted in not doing the thing, and reducing friction resulted in me doing the thing.

gloves, the number of tasks I use to avoid because I didn't realize I hated the way my hands felt during/after. I wear the food safe nylon gloves for EVERYTHING. Cooking, cleaning counters, when I'm on my period and have to clean up after using the restroom. Using dishwasher gloves when I do the dishes.

I hate grocery shopping to the point where we hardly ever have food in the house. I would rather be hungry than step foot into a grocery store. So now I have it delivered. It costs extra, but it’s better than not having food.

I used to hate cleaning because they told me I had to stay on one task until it was done. Now I do what I call “Graze Cleaning”. I wonder around the house doing little tasks for every room I find myself in. If my last task takes me to another room then I just clean something in there. So I get it all done now without being bored!

I was so bad at skincare because I didn’t want to stand at the sink. So I created a routine that omits water and keep it in my bedside table! Good makeup wipe, micellar water in a spritz bottle, toner, serum and moisturizer all fit perfectly and are easily accessible. My skin has never been better!

Something that helps me get stuff done is: if I feel like doing a task, i do it, even if it’s low priority. Sink full of dishes and laundry baskets overflowing, but I want to scrub the window screens? I scrub the window screens!
