No representa solo un tema ambiental, sino también cultural. Para las comunidades indígenas Mayo-Yoreme, la zona de Topolobampo Ohuira tiene un valor sagrado y ancestral. Muchas personas se oponen al proyecto porque consideran que el desarrollo industrial en ese territorio pone en riesgo no solo la naturaleza, sino también su identidad, sus tradiciones y su vínculo espiritual con la tierra y el mar.

Viele Einwohner befürchten, dass dieses Industrieprojekt unsere Lebensweise und das ökologische Gleichgewicht der Region gefährden könnte. Wir wollen diese Anlage nicht, weil wir glauben, dass die potenziellen wirtschaftlichen Vorteile die Risiken für unsere Umwelt, unsere Fischerei und unsere Zukunft nicht rechtfertigen. Wir fordern, dass den lokalen Gemeinschaften Gehör geschenkt wird und unsere Bedenken ernst genommen werden.
