@sharonsaysso: This isn’t about my right to deliver a commencement address. If I was invited by a private organization for a conference and they decided to back out, that’s their call, and there aren’t any free speech issues. The issue is that this is the GOVERNMENT — members of Congress and members of the Utah state legislature — collaborating with Turning Point USA to engage in a coercive pressure campaign to threaten the school’s funding if I wasn’t canceled, based on my viewpoint. That is what makes it a free speech issue, the government trying to control what kind of speech is “approved.” This coercive pressure campaign then turned into a serious security issue, as a result of the actions of government officials and TPUSA. (Bear in mind I’ve spoken at this college twice before and it was an excellent experience, which is why they asked me back.) My speech at commencement was going to be hopeful and encouraging. And state and federal lawmakers — and a powerful organization with close ties to both — decided to turn it into something else entirely.
I wonder if you would be willing to give your commencement speech at some point? I would love to hear what you were going to say! My daughter graduates next month & I know she would've loved to have you as her commencement speaker!

Disappointed and embarrassed this occurred in my home state, but thrilled with the billboard celebration we’ve been able to throw!

My favorite thing about Sharon is her commitment to being direct and honest. She would be a perfect commencement speaker ANYWHERE.

I just don’t even have words for all of this, or any of it. The hypocrisy, and the way they’ll never see the hypocrisy.

Sharon, no matter what they do, they cannot stop your progress. They cannot silence your resistance to their unethical and anti common sense actions. We stand with you and support you. You my darling are politically correct. Remember, I'M not. Lol. Call me

The irony of it all. It’s only because you actually have a voice that reaches people.

As the Outstanding Graduate of my major, I was deeply disappointed in how Utah handled this. Threatening to take funding from the university for a speaker after students were called “snowflakes” for not wanting CK on campus. Feels hypocritical to me. Additionally, the anti-DEI legislation HB261 was a joke, they just don’t want people becoming educated enough to vote out the Republican lawmakers who keep threatening our education. It shut down women’s centers, Pacific Islander Initiatives, Latino Initiatives, LGBTQIA centers and more from all public higher education. This wasn’t about a post Sharon made, it’s about how intelligent and educated she is. They don’t like educated women here.
