WOMAN ALLEGEDLY STRANGLED A HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYER FROM BEHIND DURING A GAME, POLICE SAY Woman Allegedly Strangled A High School Football Player From Behind During A Game, Police Say A Kentucky woman is facing a serious charge after an incident at a high school football game. Police in Monticello, Kentucky say Kayla Barrett, 36, was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 4. The arrest is tied to an Oct. 30 game between Wayne County and North Laurel. According to police, Barrett allegedly strangled a Wayne County player during the game. Police say she allegedly choked him from behind. The player was taken to the Wayne County Emergency Room to be evaluated for inj*ries. Barrett was charged with strangulation in the second degree. She was taken to the Laurel County Detention Center. According to jail records viewed by PEOPLE, she was released on a $5,000 cash bond. Barrett has been charged, but the case has not been decided in court. The Monticello Police Department issued a statement about the incident. “High school athletics should be an environment where student-athletes can compete safely, without fear of viol*nce or intimidation,” it said. The statement also said there is “absolutely no justification for physical viol*nce against players, coaches, officials, or spectators.” PEOPLE reached out to the police department, the Wayne County Clerk’s Office and both high schools for more information. Should fans face harsher penalties for crossing the line at school games? #monticello #kentucky #highschoolfootball #waynecounty #crimenews
