I’m with Jimmy John’s on this one.
Some stores refuse cash for simple, practical reasons: robbery prevention, lower operating costs (no counting bills, making change, or doing bank deposits), and generally smoother operations. The kid wasn’t at fault, he was clear, firm, and handled an annoying customer who, notably, got zero support from anyone else in line. And honestly, the customer could’ve been trying to score a free sandwich by playing the “I only have cash” angle. If the kid had given in, he would’ve opened the door for that same pressure tactic and disrespectful behavior, from him or others in the future. Also, U.S. federal law doesn’t require private businesses to accept cash unless state or local rules say otherwise.
