So, a young princess who once lived in a great empire suddenly had to live in exile. A few years later, her life took a new turn. In 1931, she married into the royal family of Hyderabad. Her husband was the son of Mir Osman Ali Khan, one of the richest rulers in the world at that time. This marriage connected two very different worlds—Ottoman Turkey and royal India. But Durru Shehvar was not just a royal princess. In Hyderabad, she worked for society. She supported girls’ education, encouraged women to learn and grow, and helped improve healthcare. She is also remembered for her connection with the Princess Durru Shehvar Hospital, which helped many women and children.
