Any worker caught on video having so much of a reaction will be fired by the company. It matters not so much if he is Japanese or a foreigner.

We shouldn't believe everything people post on the internet; this customer must have said or done something to offend the employee. It's worth remembering that xenophobia, racism, and prejudice against foreigners are being discussed worldwide in Japan.

So let's start off i think the clerk is in the wrong. Now, maybe he's had a REALLY rough day and that was the final straw and just set him off. Doesn't excuse the behavior but might help explain it. Ive gathered from other comments that the Japanese guy was speaking in an acceptable, but maybe not the absolute most polite, way. And this is where context will extend probably years before the video. Because i think Japanese is taught to foreigners as having a lot of hard set in stone lines regarding manners and stuff. Especially if you try to take boot camp courses that speed you along. So foreigners don't get to learn the small nuances that not everything is so set into stone. Because it is really taught as a hard line in the sand that this is meanners and don't violate. Reality is that there's a lot of grey area that is perfectly acceptable, especially among younger generations. That might explain his reaction if he feels so wronged without the full phrase. Doesn't excuse his behavior either way but just my thoughts
