Old thought: casual errands clothes don’t matter → New thought: being put-together is an act of self-love. 👉🏾 For a long time, I treated the clothes I wore to run errands, get groceries, coffee run, or do anything “ordinary” like they didn’t really count. (Because I’m just “getting in and out”) But eventually I realized that was the wrong question. The better question was: How do I want to feel while I’m living my life? I started paying attention to how differently I experienced my day when I put a little intention into myself. Not dressed up unnecessarily or uncomfortable.., Just… cared for. I felt more confident, energized, and more like myself. And the more I learned about style, the deeper that hit home. 👉🏾 Another thing that engrained the change is learning about the ways our ancestors used clothing, presentation, and personal adornment to express dignity, identity, and agency during periods when so much autonomy was being denied to them, completely changed the way I thought about getting dressed. It reminded me that clothing has never just been clothing. It’s deciding how you present to the world and to yourself. A good casual wardrobe doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive. Just a few go-to pieces and outfit formulas. That’s really it. I’m probably never going to be the girl who wears heels to buy paper towels, but I AM going to keep being mindful about how I step out, even if it’s an “ordinary” moment. ➡️ How do YOU think about casual dressing?
