My guess is that the switches always light up the bulbs left to right no matter which switch is flipped, after moving around the left most bulb lights up first and then the next one on the second flip switch. Therefore with the new order he should’ve turned on the yellow switch first then the green switch then the red then blue.

Piff even I know how that works! 1st switch flicked does first bulb 2nd switch does the 2nd bulb regardless of what colour bulb is there. So you should have switched the yellow switch then the green switch then the red then the blue!
