@cariannelawrence: It all got a bit emotional on the podcast! Hear the rest of it from Sunday 26 April Happy Lesbian Visibility Week #Swarla #corrie #lisaswain #carlaconnor #vickymyers
The difference between your experience growing up and mine is huge! I was a teenager when Helen kissed Nikki in Bad Girls. I had the start of the media showing representation from my teenage years upwards. It was scarse and you had to look for the lgbt tv/films/books. The lists in LGBT magazines like Diva and Out NW were the only point of reference for so long. It was still hidden until my early twenties. I would love Corrie to cover Lisa's story. Every lesbian/gay/bisexual woman has a story to tell especially the older generations.

this special couple made it easier to believe in ourselves and not be ashamed of what others think it has made people see that love can come from different ways and it's getting better to be your true self and be positive about your sexuality

I feel like their representation is more like my situation. I've been with my wife 10 years, we have 2 kids. I didn't go looking for a woman and had been with men before hand. I fell in love with her as the person, not because she is a woman and I feel like these 2 have just done the same. Carla more so as Lisa was with a woman previously . It's not about labels it's just about the love. People still don't understand this and these 2 have portrayed it beautifully ❤️

You get so emotional because it matters! It matters so, so much!
I am so happy for the younger people of today getting to see Swarla and other representation like this on the screen as hopefully it'll be mean they'll go on to be themselves but equally I am sad for older people, myself included, who never really had this.
I was always super shy at school and teased for now having a boyfriend but the biggest thing for me was my Dad saying "You're not gay are you?"... Like why would it matter if I was? That's such a damaging thing to say to a teenager. Also, I used to work with my sister and there was a guy at work who liked me, I liked him too as friends but there was also a woman there who I was really, REALLY into, and I remember my sister saying I should just give it a chance with the guy, she said "I know you love (female name) but you should just give it a go"... Like why was she encouraging that when she knew I was a lesbian? Why did she want me to hide who I am? Breaks my heart to think about it as it's 20 years later and I'm still stuck in the same rubbish position.

I agree 💯 i was knew I was gay at such a young age but it was used as an insult "your Gay" no inspiration or anyone to represent us! these two do a fantastic job! ❤️im 38 and can hold my head up high and be proud to be gay! 🏳️🌈
