Elliot :
As an autistic person, I automatically use myself as a reference for making autistic characters (I like feeling connected to my ocs in some way). I look back on my experiences, what triggers me, how I perceive the world, and occasionally do research if it’s a higher or lower form of autism on the spectrum. Same with anxiety. But since everyone’s experiences are different it’s still important to do research even if you’re using yourself as the reference

I've done some research on autism for category 1 but I would like to know from someone that actually has autism and is considered to have category 1 autism how their daily life is and how they deal with it so I can make my autistic OC more realistic and avoid stereotypes. any info or experience would be very nice and helpful.

Honestly, my OC would never get to see the light of day because I act them out because like I role-play based on things that I watch or things I created in my head, but most of my OCs either are mute, which is the most easier one to portray because I could just make them mute completely or selective mutism or I usually put that makes that in with autism, which is something that I personally have so it’s easier for you to do it. It’s like one nobody’s ever going to see my characters too. It’s things that I have or things that sometimes go through which there’s a moments where I just feel like I sometimes become quiet to the point that if my mind isn’t like oh I have to talk now I could just literally become mute and you wouldn’t even realize it until like a couple minutes later

Making an OC should be fun, so doing research for the OC as well should be fun too. I mean, who WOULDN'T like doing research and properly characterizing a character? It's very fun if you enjoy it enough!
