@thedailyalaska: Diesel just crossed $6 a gallon in Anchorage, and the ripple effects are already showing up in your grocery bill. Alaska gas prices are running about 50 cents above the national average, and it's not just at the pump. Three of Alaska's biggest shipping companies raised their fuel surcharges this month. Alaska Marine Lines went from 11 to 18.5 percent. Matson jumped from 20.5 to 26.5 percent. Tote Maritime also bumped its rate in late March. Those surcharges get baked into the cost of every box of cereal, sheet of plywood, and case of diapers that rides a barge to Alaska. Alaska Airlines also increased baggage fees, citing ongoing volatility in fuel prices. Inflation hit its highest point in nearly two years in March, driven primarily by energy costs. For Alaskans who already pay more for almost everything, this round of increases is hitting harder than most. The shipping surcharges alone affect every community that depends on barge service, from Anchorage to Bethel to Kodiak. About me: I help people build rental portfolios that replace their paychecks. I'm a mortgage broker, investor, and retired my wife at 33 with real estate. Now I teach others to do the same. If this resonates, send me a DM and we'll connect. We're up to $6.24 for diesel down in like Ninilchik, Anchor Point, Homer. Tourists are already showing up in RVs and towing boats.

Yeah I’m not doing anything I’m drowning out here. It’s basically which bills can I let slide before I get paid to catch up. It’s the only thing I can do to keep myself fed at this point. If anyone’s looking for a roommate hmu😅😭

it doesn't matter what I do. it always seems like I have to pick which bill has to go into collection, just so I can keep roof over my family's head and food in the cabinets.
