When I was pregnant with my son ( he’s mixed) his granny told me she doesn’t see color obviously I think she said it to reassure me but I told her if you love me and you love your grandson it’s crucial that you bear witness what we experience as black people in America. So glad she took that advice 😭💕

I feel exactly the same thing saying that you don't see color sounds too much like we all need to assimilate to fit a certain type of box, and it doesn't recognize our individuality, our ethnicity, our culture and our identity!! It's okay to see color appreciate the differences of color in ethnicities and respect each other for it!!

I kinda agree. I think the not seeing colors as the "we're all equal" is really far from this society. From my experience I think the closest to this are some artists (like I myself am an artist and love to draw different people with different skintones, personalities, cultures etc, so I normalized everything I draw even in real life idk how to explain it)

I've noticed your continued emphasis on racial distinctions, and I want to reiterate my perspective: I do not perceive individuals based on their race. My belief is that all individuals born and raised in this country are fundamentally American, and I find the persistent use of racial labels such as "black and white" to be counterproductive to this unifying principle.

Agreed. It’s also very dismissive and ignorant. It disregards discussions about systemic racism and acts as if there’s equality in this system, when it’s far from it. We need to acknowledge race to understand why such inequalities exist, and how to dismantle them.

your take is perfect because as a black presenting Puerto rican, people say I'm different, I'm basically a shy person who keeps myself and I read comic books and I'm a serious intellectual, I read comic books but I also have two mbas and two masters degrees and I'm incredibly smart and I'm working my doctorate, everybody says oh they don't understand me or I'm different I'm weird, it's because they expect me to be this thug because of all these tattoos, and they always say they don't understand me or they think I'm weird, but because they have this internal racial bias next for me to act a certain way and I don't act the way they expect, I'm deeply into psychology and I'm working my degree, my PhD and counseling psychology so I understand people and I observe people so with people that say this, have that implicit racial boss because they expect me to act like a loud obnoxious thug because they have that mindset. so you and this take is amazing and I appreciate it!
