Ghadir Khumm was not only a moment in history. It was a reminder of what the ummah should never separate from: the Book of Allah and the family of the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said he was leaving behind the Book of Allah and his Ahl al-Bayt (Musnad Ahmad, Musnad al-Ansar, hadith of Zayd ibn Thabit, vol. 5, p. 182, no. 21068). Then at Ghadir he said: “Whoever I am his mawla, Ali is his mawla” (Musnad Ahmad, Musnad Ali, vol. 1, p. 119, no. 964; Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Manaqib, vol. 5, p. 591, no. 3713). And this honour was not isolated. The Prophet ﷺ said to Ali: “You are to me like Harun was to Musa, except there is no prophet after me” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Maghazi, p. 1904, no. 4416; Sahih Muslim, Kitab Fada’il al-Sahabah, vol. 4, p. 1871, no. 2404). The Qur’an also preserves the honour of Ali and the Ahl al-Bayt: al-Ma’idah 5:55, al-Mubahalah 3:61, and al-Tathir 33:33. Ibn Kathir mentions reports under Qur’an 5:55 connecting the verse to Ali giving his ring while in ruku‘ (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, under al-Ma’idah 5:55; Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyyah ed., vol. 3, pp. 123–124). In Sahih Muslim, the Prophet ﷺ brought Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn عليهم السلام for Mubahalah and said: “O Allah, these are my family” (Sahih Muslim, vol. 4, p. 1871, no. 2404). And Aisha رضي الله عنها narrates Hadith al-Kisa, where the Prophet ﷺ gathered them under his cloak and recited the verse of purification (Sahih Muslim, vol. 4, p. 1883, no. 2424). And regarding Ali’s knowledge, al-Hakim narrates: “I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its gate” (al-Mustadrak, Kitab Ma‘rifat al-Sahabah, vol. 4, p. 97). Tirmidhi also narrates: “I am the house of wisdom and Ali is its door” (Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Manaqib, vol. 5, p. 596, no. 3723). May Allah keep us on the path of the Qur’an, the Prophet ﷺ, and love for his purified Ahl al-Bayt عليهم السلام. #islam #islamic #islamicreminders
