@dr.shawna: My first every time watching Scrubs and I immediately had an idea for a mini lecture 😂 So here is some information and history from Dr. Kelso, Elliot, and the Gyno Girls on the concept of the “Mommy Track” and how it persists today! #LearnOnTikTok #scrubs #TikTokLearningCampaign
I’m not sure what the Venn diagram is for people who want feminist analysis and folks who love Scrubs, but we’ll see!

I wanted to be a professional photographer. For 15 years I tried to get my break without even so much as an interview. Then I had a child and boom! suddenly I was qualified to photograph children. I got the first photography job I applied for. I've now had a 15 year career as a children photography specialist. I'm very good at it but that's not what I dreamt of being. Still isn't.

I love all 8 seasons of Scrubs so much ♥️(we don't talk about season 9). It opens a LOT of good discussions.

I know it isn't the point, but i am bothered by bias is medical fields. My gyn became one because he lost his mother cervical cancer and decided he wanted to prevent that from happening to other women. Has been one the better doctors I've ever had. Pain control is offered openly at the start.

I used to joke, when I was still working, that what I needed was a wife. Someone that would take care of all those things I didn’t have time for as a full time employee of a large corporation. My bosses never seemed to laugh 🤭

I love scrubs. I also love your videos. I *also* also rage quite my last job, after over twenty years, over the deliberate stalling of my career through "benevolent" sexism.

Dr. Reid :
The thing that was impactful for me watching that as a physician is that if you match into an internal medicine residency then your are training to be an IM doctor. If you match into an Ob/Gyn residency then you are training to be an Ob/Gyn. The insult is that she wouldn’t be able to hack internal medicine and SWITCH residencies, which is very difficult and almost impossible for most residents. So there were levels to the disrespect, especially since Ob/Gyn does surgery, so is technically a more difficult residency!!

When I was in my 20s it was “suggested” that I not apply for a manager role because I was a mom and should focus on that.

Omg I just watched for the first time too because it’s my wife’s favorite show and I have a lot of thoughts as someone who is Dominican. As usual, you’re spot on and I had the same reaction to Kelso’s incessant misogyny and infantilzation 🥴

ObGynis SO inflexible. its just seen as nurturing, and the first acceptable medical specialty for women. flexibility would be radiology or pathology...

I'm a librarian and Dr Toni Samek described it as a feminized field rather than a feminist field. It has the exact issues that you describe!
