I was also a TA and I never used an AI detector because there have been times where I put my own work into it and it said AI. It’s not fair. However, sometimes is blatantly obvious when someone is using AI, especially when comparing it to their previous work. AI detectors are 💩

i hate that we now have to downgrade our writing just to pass an ai test, which is a stupid concept in its own way and does not work! you know it's not reliable when it says classics from 50 years ago were written with ai. And the copy-pasting? i do that all the time and not use ai, so am i gonna get penalised for the way i work now?

As every other comment is saying the AI detectors are going to flag academic writing as AI. Even if its the students own work. Because how was ChatGPT and all the rest of it trained? Using published academic journals, essays, writing, etc. Any student who knows how to write with proper academic structure, grammar, and overall eloquence is going to get flagged. Dont deduct points from them for using AI. When you are using, an AI to check their work. Don’t throw stones when you live in a glass house.

I thinkkkkk they just needed help getting started. Before AI we all did this using others works and got “inspiration” from them. Sure the work is cut by half but the student is just utilizing the resources available.
