Hi! My psychiatrist told me I couldn’t take medication for my ADHD along with my bipolarity medication because it can cause manic and mixed episodes, so I’m off adhd meds, is it true for all adhd medication?

The only time my daughter has ever attempted or been hospitalized is when she’s in a mixed episode.

I had a 4 month mixed episode with bipolar 1 and it was the worst experience of my life and I had never ever behaved like that before. I had never attempted to take my life yet I did 10 times. I had to be tube fed multiple times because I would stop eating for 5 whole days until they intervened. I was under extreme restrictions in hospital because I used anything and everything to hurt myself. I wouldn't wish a mixed episode on anybody. I was aggressive and I had never been likw that before. I have PTSD from it. Lamotrigine and quetiapine and hospital routine got me out of it. I wasn't allowed out for leave for 6 weeks.

Added on ziprasidone to get me out of a mixed episode this January. It worked but had to discontinue because of tremors and jaw clenching/locking

These are my predominant polarity. They are for sure easy to miss for professionals. Got diagnosed after like 10 years

mixed episodes have almost always ended with me in the hospital 😅 I'm depressed but motivated enough to do something about it lol

When people have asked me what a mixed ep felt like, the only way I can describe it is as if my body was trying to pull itself apart down a middle seam in opposite directions. Olanzapine worked for me.

Dr. Hanson...is it true that patients may get their life insurance denied after a diagnosis of bipolar disorder?

Mixed states mentioned !! 🤪😭 I had a really good psychiatrist who was famous at the best hospitals in the us for psychiatry (I can name drop him and psychiatrists in the area light up, sadly he’s retired) he said the same thing ab mixed states being the most dangerous mood state and he would sort of prophylactically hospitalize me when I started to have them but wasn’t suicidal bc I would become suicidal in 10 seconds flat, at random. I’ve nearly died a couple times being prone to these, but never on his watch! lol.

both poles at once sounds awful and exhausting. Glad there are options to help even if the 🐐 isn't #1

Question: Rapid cycling/mixed state…Are they the same or can they confused for each other. My husband gets his care through the VA. Not the best for mental health. Over the last year I feel like he is rapid cycling and his manic episodes have destroyed our finances. I mean to the point we have had $40 to survive a month on!! It has been horrific. He recently went inpatient and they stated he was mixed and I still can’t wrap my head around how that is because he only seems depressed after he blows through our money. He is on Depakote and was on vraylar but now he just takes Depakote…his depressive state scares me but we need money to survive so…yah the roller coaster has been exhausting
