Loving an addict is hard. it’s frustrating & scary. I think the dynamic between Rue & her mom was so raw & real. I’d argue that some of the best scenes from the show were Rue & her mom’s scenes.

her mom was right, and she was preparing rue for actual life — for being able to make her own choices but also having to deal with the consequences. rue’s almost 18, and at that point, she can’t force her to go to rehab. she can’t force her to care about her life the way that she does. but she also can’t pour all of the resources she has into her because at the end of the day, rue’s not the only one who depends on her.

Her mom was right but the wording was so bad, rue obviously didn’t feel good about herself to begin with and now her moms saying she’d choose Gia over her. I know that’s not quite how she meant it but that’s how a struggling 17 year old with interpret it

My sister was our Gia. I was never mean to her or treated her bad like rue treated her but my mom def made a choice and chose my sister. I’m glad she did and I’m greatful that I am still here.
