Clerk was in the wrong, he could’ve corrected the customer without getting aggressive, hitting the counter was very much out of place. If I were the customer I’d ask for a refund immediately.

As a foreigner working at a convenience store in Japan, I don’t believe the clerk is entirely at fault here. In reality, many staff members regularly face situations where customers raise their voices or complain harshly without clear reason. Customer service should always be respectful, but respect should go both ways. If customers expect polite and professional treatment, they should also communicate with basic courtesy and understanding. Creating a respectful environment is a shared responsibility, not something that falls only on the staff.

the clerk was in wrong, but the customer needs to be respectful towards service workers. as the japanese elderly woman said, these workers dont have it easy. so please be KIND to eachother ❤️

ガニエフ is the name on the tag so it's not Japanese. The name is written in Katakana and normally Japanese names are written in Kanji with Furigana on them or just Hiragana and never Katakana.
u should be asking other clerks what they think too

Hmm very good point about Kansai vs Kanto though, I am curious where this took place. I think both the worker needs to chill out because you can’t just blow up and yell at someone like that AND the shopper needs to use keigo and be respectful. Plus I feel like we’re missing something with how the video was filmed, we need more context.

It’s seems like there is a generational gap here. Younger people see it as casual language whereas older people see it as rude to not say kudasai. Personally my Japanese teacher taught me that it’s not rude, it’s just not polite.

I think you took the picture too close to the face, could you move back a little?
Acting in anger will only make it worse so I don’t think he should’ve done this. However if I was the customer my parents always teach us to say please and thank you especially if someone is preparing you food! I can see both perspectives and would’ve acted differently than both. Maybe it’s a bit of miscommunication with both very direct.

I think the clerk thought, which I also thought that way the first time I heard it, thought the order form atatamero. probably has past bad experience or the customer filmed the part where he said the normal form.
