the "UI doesn’t matter" line is spicy 😅 i still think UI matters, but i’m def pushing more API stuff lately w/ Teract AI

when he said “UI doesn’t matter as much,” my designer soul left my body 😭 i’m leaning more API-first too, even with Rumora.

Does that mean UI would be restricted to voice and a chat input? There still needs to be visual feedback in a number of scenarios. Humans have always relied on pictures and symbols to keep a record, since we lived in caves

theoretically yes, that’s what all CEOs and C level executives wants but when you have to sell your Products to a business team, they don’t care about what APIs run behind the fancy UI , they wanted to have more visual experience in terms of fancy UIs, dashboards, buttons, page layouts rather than APIs in terms of micro-services or monolithic services. And most of the time you have to sell your Product/App to Business Team who are the decision maker and not the IT team . So, you have to have both the fancy UIs and robust API to sell your products.

this makes a ton of sense. they're going to be entire companies that never have a UI

Headless SaaS is the only logical endpoint when agents become the primary interface. Why click through a UI when an agent can just call the API directly? The companies building for agent consumption now are going to own the next distribution layer.

ugh conversational UI is so different than SaaS, and it’s very obvious when PMs apply web 2.5 ideas to agents

I just built a personal headless crm with voice, text and labeling as input. It’s super basic but so fricken cool and easy to use.

it's crazy how things have turned completely opposite. few years back front ends and UIs became main stream and many people including developers started believing software engineering is entirely "UI development" and backends/APIs didn't have any place. people thought it's just saving data in the DB 😂

Duncan McKinnon :
This is exactly what I’m seeing and how I want to work. Have been focusing on exposing the internals of the UI securely in REST, SDK, MCP, and CLI so that an agent can do anything from the terminal or sandbox that could be done in the UI.
