We need your help. An angry customer left us a 1-star review on Tripadvisor. And the craziest thing is that we didn’t even have a Tripadvisor page. He created a brand new Tripadvisor page for Seek Sophie just so he could leave us a bad review. At first, we were really upset. Not just because it was a bad review. If we mess up and you’re angry, we get it. We’ll always try to make it right. But in this case, the customer submitted a last-minute request to book an experience. We told him that it was not a confirmed booking yet, and the host needed to check their availability. When the host was unavailable, the customer created a Tripadvisor page for us and left a 1-star review telling people to avoid us. He also didn’t put his booking name on his review so we can’t contact him to make it right. That was really crushing. Our team bends over backwards to make guests happy. We have over 1,000 5-star reviews on Google and Trustpilot, and we know one bad review doesn’t define us. And yet, this is now one of the first things people see when they Google us. We know it can be frustrating when something you want to book isn’t available. That’s why we try to have as many experiences on Instant Book as possible. But that’s not always possible. Many of our hosts are small local businesses, not large tour companies with live booking systems. They may be deep in the jungle, out at sea, on a mountain when a request comes in. This means the host needs a little time to check if they’re available. It may not be as instant or convenient. But it’s one of the reasons we’re able to work with incredible local hosts who are doing meaningful work. And this also helps travellers find brilliant independent hosts who won’t otherwise be online. Now Tripadvisor won’t let us delete the page we never created in the first place. So we really need your help. If you’ve travelled with us before and had a wonderful experience, we’d really appreciate it if you could take a minute to leave us a review on Tripadvisor. Hopefully, when people find us, they won’t just see one angry review. They’ll see a page filled with real travel stories that reflect the kind of travel we’re trying to build.
