We cruised along the open road, taking in the dramatic contrast between the deep, black lava fields and the brilliant, sparkling turquoise of the Pacific Ocean. 🌊🌋 As we drove, we passed near the beautiful Whittington Beach Park. A lot of people wonder if this is the island's newest beach because of all the volcanic rock, but here is an awesome little geography fact-check for you! 🧐 Whittington is actually a deeply historic spot, famous for the ruins of a shipping pier originally built back in the 1800s. If you are looking for the actual newest beaches on the island—and quite literally the newest beaches in the entire world!—you have to head a little bit further east to the Puna district.
