@thetranscendjournal: On why western economic systems don’t work for Muslim societies, and how values underlie economic systems. This is video 4 in my series breaking down Sadr’s Iqtisaduna, where he makes the case for an Islamic economic system and compares it against capitalism and socialism. In this section he argues: if an economic system does not align with the values of it’s people, it will not lead to their desired outcomes. Capitalism and socialism both prioritize individual freedom, self-interest, and struggle, placing little emphasis on moral accountability to God. The free economy worked in Europe because it matched these values. It gave people the space to compete, pursue wealth, and act on self-interest. Socialism relies on the same instinct, it just collectivizes it into class struggle. Islam starts from a different foundation: value for the unseen, moral accountability, and social harmony. Capitalism needs individuals driven by competition. Socialism needs classes mobilized by conflict. Islam tries to cultivate restraint, responsibility, and social balance. You can’t just transplant an economic system. The operating assumptions travel with it. Next video: what does an Islamic economic system actually look like? Follow along as I break down what I learn in Iqtisaduna piece by piece. #economics #politicaleconomy #capitalism #islamiceconomics #philosophy

The main issue is that you assumed that the struggle in capitalism and socialism are equal? Interclass struggle (a actual natural inevitable struggle that exists when the people don’t own the means of production) ≠ individualistic profit maximizing struggle

Wrong principled communism is a scientific analysis that largely figures in past free societies that predate capitalism and existed outside of the west

I don’t know where you (or the scholar you mentioned) came up with the idea that capitalism is the struggle for materialism and the focus on individualism is just the pursuit of material gain (or however you put it)! This is incorrect. Capatalism is based on individualism but that individualism is based on personal responsibility and requires a strong moral code. That is why it is compatible with the major religions especially Christianity. Capitalism especially with an actual free market focuses on the individual freedom, responsibility, private property rights and mutual consent. Does that mean there are no abuses, or it’s perfect of course not especially with a government as large and powerful as we have. But the way you or the scholar you mentioned is just wrong.

With this logic capitalism shouldn't work in muslim countries, yet it does. As far as I know, in all Muslim countries goods are produced to be sold for a profit; private ownership of the means of production is dominant; workers are just as if not more exploited than anywhere else. There are even examples of "successfull" capitalist muslim countries, like the UAE.

Communism is just advancing past capitalism through abolishment of capitalist relations .. hence anything with capitalism relations is still capitalism anything moving forward from it is communism..

im interested to hear about the socialism chapters but how can u say islam is incompatible when marxism is a scientific approach to viewing economic systems. because it e.g. views the development of capitalism as a consequence of the industrial revolution and the convergence of wealth of the merchant class. there are no value systems here right ?

This is just blatantly wrong. Socialism and capitalism are politcal-economic systems. There is islamic socialism, and arab socialism in history and modern struggles. It has worked in MENA and it can. Its a dichotomy because given modern production those are the only two options. Fascism is capitalism, social democracy is capitalism, market socialism is socialism, etc etc

this is not a capitalism vs marxism debate but just simply an argument AGAINST historical materialism which is scientific method, the idea that human systems are driven primarily by abstract ideas as opposed to material conditions is naive, and the brute separation of the west (Catholic or protestant) from the muslim world (a model group where everything is different and social issues don't exist) is further proof of how pseudoscientific and immature this analysis is, as it blames and washes off all that is deems harmful and "bad" as simply western with no further investigation, human societies are different in very little *fundamental* ways

Sis, can you delve further into the structure, characteristics and principles on an Islamic Economy. I once read a simple Islamic economy phrase, "We are in the business of making life easy for each other", a Hablumminannas approach. Thanks, appreciate your sharing.

marxism is not a set rulebook "based on western values" it is a science a framework of understanding social relations, and has been accurate in it's analysis, and has nothing to do with a morsl framework. sincerely an arab marxist.

You have a misunderstanding of socialism. Socialism is a scientific process of abolishing private (not personal) property in favor of collective ownership of the mean of production.
