In my case, I was ‘easiest’ because I learned not to ask for anything, make myself small and became hyper independent.. It was decades of being dismissed, ignored and forced to navigate life on my own, even as a small child. As an adult when I expressed my feelings to my mom, she said “well you were smart, you never needed anything”… as if EVERY child doesn’t need love, guidance and support.

Just a heads up. My sister was the golden child. The one my mum told everyone was just like her, had no needs, who was my mums confidant and bestie, who was exactly the person my mum told her she was…she is no contact now. Has no idea who she is now she hasn’t got my mum telling her who she was, what she liked…we are all no contact. My experience was very different but the damage is the same.

This is happening to me right now. I recently divorced my ex and my adult daughter started pulling away from me. We were very close! I did blur the lines of friend and parent, which made my daughter very upset! I’ve apologized numerous times and made a lot of changes in my life. It still seems like she doesn’t want me in her life. I don’t know what else to do. I know I was a good mom. I’m just so devastated by this whole situation!

my sister once told me that my mom and I were closer bc I was more like my mom. I asked her what if, just maybe, I'm not. and maybe that means my mom doesn't know me at all. and its actually very sad being around her.

not fighting and being close is not the same though. if you truly are close with someone they're unlikely to cut you off. but being close means knowing them, talking about feelings, spending quality time together. not just "getting along".
