@loreeen.03: When I was little, whenever someone asked me, “Dai, ano gusto mo magdako?” my answer was always, “Gusto ko mag doctor.” I didn’t even know what field—basta kabalo lang ko nga gusto ko matawag nga “Doctor.” As I grew older, I realized I was drawn to two paths: dentistry and veterinary medicine. But if I had to choose only one, dentistry would always be my first choice—amo gid na ang pinaka handom ko. The problem was, there was no university offering dentistry here in Negros Occidental, so I needed to study in Iloilo. That’s why my mother was being duha-duha (nag-aalinlangan), because we don’t have relatives there and layo gid ang Iloilo. Because of that, I also became undecided if I should still pursue dentistry. But now that there’s already a university here in Negros offering Veterinary Medicine, maybe that’s a sign that vet med is really for me. Sadly, my mother wants me to pursue Accountancy, but I refused. She said, “Kalayo man bi sang Iloilo” (Ang layo naman kasi ng Iloilo). And I told her, “Ma, indi ko man bi gusto mag eskwela pila ka tuig sa kurso nga indi ko gusto o indi ko handom” (Ma, ayaw ko namang mag-aral ng ilang taon sa kursong hindi ko gusto o hindi ko pangarap). Because honestly, I don’t want to spend years studying something I don’t love. Budlay gid magpabilin sa kurso nga indi mo gusto, kag mas budlay kung wala didto ang imo heart. Though I still have years left and maybe things can still change, one thing I know for sure—I want to be a dentist. I want to be called “Doctor.” I don’t want this dream to become another multo again. I don’t want history to repeat itself, just like when my SPSTE dream didn’t come true before I entered Grade 7.
