I have a grocery store that could be maybe a 5-10 minute walk from me, but there isn't a bridge over the stream between the neighborhood and the main road, so the walk is like nearly an hour. so I take the 5 minute drive instead.

I think the time off thing is what’s really confusing some people outside of the US. It’s not that Americans don’t WANT to travel, but logistically it’s incredibly difficult. At most people can have around 15 PTO days a year. A lot of those are used up for illnesses or other things like that. We simply do not have the time to properly make trips to Europe, Asia, and Africa.

i love american compliment culture, my job is rough, but giving and receiving compliments can get me through my shift bc i love making ppl feel happier by complimenting them and i love receiving sweet compliments

American here, a 3 hour drive is nothing. I've heard many people from Europe say that's a lot. But 3 hours to the city and 3 hours back is just a nice little day trip. Growing up, we'd drive 13 hours to California to visit family. 🤷🏻♀️

I also think the fakeness misconception comes from our lack of follow through. We'll say like "we should get a coffee and catch up!" And then never follow up. But it's not fake, we really do want to do that it's just (to your point) we have no freaking time

I live almost across the street from the grocery store. My daughter and I would love to walk there more often, but even in a small town the roads and fast cars make it more difficult than it should be. I'm in a richer neighborhood though and I know how lucky I am to be this close to any food source.
