*Ẹ̀gúngún* = “The Ancestors” in Yorùbá religion. Rule: *You never call the person inside by his human name. You say “Ẹ̀gúngún” or the ancestor’s name.* To unmask a Ẹ̀gúngún is a serious offense in traditional towns. 3. *Types of Ẹ̀gúngún* There are hundreds of individual Ẹ̀gúngún, each representing a specific ancestor, lineage, or town founder. - *Ẹ̀gúngún Òkè*: Elder, slow, dignified. Gives blessings. - *Ẹ̀gúngún Abore*: Warrior-type, fast, energetic. Chases evil. - *Ẹ̀gúngún Aláré*: Clown/joker type. Uses humor to teach lessons.
