This is one of the reasons I struggle with writing my book :/ I start out thinking it’s an incredible idea, but halfway through, I begin to feel that no one will read it, that it’s not actually that good, and I wonder why I’m even writing it?! Consequently, I can’t bring myself to write anymore, yet, not a single day goes by without me thinking about this story. So bittersweet

This is going to sound extremely narcissistic but whenever I get in a slump where I’m questioning my writing… I pull out my old school projects. I’ve got writing projects from when I was like 5y/o-17y/o in a drawer. I sit with them and reread them. Even in my 5y/o stuff… I’m funny! I’m clever! And once I get to my older high school stuff? It’s SO good. Like SOOO good I can’t believe I wrote it. But I remember writing it. And I remember writing it AND questioning myself at the time, thinking it was no good. If I felt like that then, when the stuff I wrote was actually amazing… I have to trust in myself that the feelings I’m having currently will ALSO pass with time. I have to trust in myself and in my writing abilities more than that voice in my head that’s doubting myself.

When I was in foster care, we would get free books from the Book Fairs at our schools. I had never read before going to my first book fair when I was 10, so I wasn’t sure what to get. A pencil? An eraser? A toy? I saw your book at the end of the shelf, I dont remember why but all I do know is myself reading the first page and automatically keeping it. That same day I fell in love with reading and haven’t stopped. Thank you for creating and making my younger self feel less lonely and allowing us into your imagination.
