I've been a mechanic for over 25 years and I used to recommend Hyundai but now I cannot in good conscience. they know they have a oil consumption problem and think it is perfectly normal for a motor to use a quart of oil every thousand miles. and I have the paperwork to prove it from my own personal car at 70,000 miles I had to put a Cadillac converter in it because of the oil consumption and I have seen many people replace engines for the same reason so your dad is a thousand percent right do not recommend Hyundai not even for a derby

This happened last year (and a half) to my 2016 Santa Fe. And then not long after same to my wife’s 2014 Tucson. Both have brand new engines and paid off. We are going to milk these cars until we can’t. Then get Toyotas

I got a 2018 Hyundai Elentra and dang engine blew at 100,000 miles. Kept up with oil changes and everything. Just out of warranty, called dealership, no coverages nothing. We’re out $13,000 on a car that does not run. 😑

My 2014 Hyundai Sonata SE shutoff on me while driving in 2020 at 130k miles. Restarted and was knocking profusely Did some research and learned that there was a manufacturing defect with rod bearings. Called Hyundai and they communicated that was a known issue and would most likely be covered. Hyundai covered and replaced my motor.

Hey. LOVE YOU GUYS. QUESTION. I own a 2021 Malibu 1.5 4 cylinder turbo. bought it used from a enterprise rental store and it had 62.000 miles when I bought it back in July of 2023 and it now has 187000 both on & off road, " dirt" roads 😳 and it's literally been the most reliable motor vehicle I've ever owned. I'm 62 in June and needless to say. I've owned everything from Ford vans. Chevy vans. Ford rangers. Nissan hard body pick up. Mitsubishi starion. Camaro iroc 5 xj jeeps and a 72 Chevy Malibu Chevelle. and all of them put me through some type of hell, sooner or later. So THIS vehicle has had literally NO ISSUES in terms of mechanical. it's battery in the key fob went bad due to getting wet and a check engine light csme on many moons ago, was tested and it showed a simple air flow device type of reading and that's about it. it's been a pleasant surprise to say the least. I do change the oil myself every time it's ready for a change. for me, it's been around 5 - 7000 miles. What say you? would love to hear from you about this experience and the make and model. again. one of your biggest fans

On one hand hand people need to know what they're getting into when they buy vehicles. But, others need to understand that some of us have to buy what we can afford. Sometimes you have to go with the inferior model to get the items on your needs list. Just like sometimes you have to forego items on your wants list because it's outside your budget. But going without a car is not an option for most of us.

I recommend the Nissan and toyotas. If you keep the oil changed they hold up . But they're not what they used to be. None of the cars are what they used to be. You start shutting cylinders down in V8 motors. You start asking for problems, it's always gonna be that way. You can't start out with a V8 switch. It to V6 and then have it, run on four cylinder and inspect nothing to go wrong with those other cylinders sitting there dead.Eventually, there's gonna be problems with the pistons and the valve train. Too much raw fuel setting and don't get me started on electric cars.No one wants to work on them.If they quit running, you gotta drag em,to a shop and it costs as much as a new car to replace the batteries in them

The thing is with the theta 2 gdi motors, they will all fail eventually. No matter how you take care of them. It’s a design flaw. It’s more of a matter of when. Mine started going around 94,000 miles. And I had a real problem with carbon build up. Junk engines.

I maintained my 2018 Hyundai Elantra and at 106k the engine failed. Towed to a Firestone, they said to take it to Hyundai that it appeared to be an engine failure. The dealer, replaced the engine along with giving me a loaner for almost 4 weeks. Hopefully this new engine will make it a bit longer.

Had my 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe sport with the 2.0 blow at 98,000 miles, Hyundai replaced but it took them 8 months to get an engine and they put me in a loaner the whole time and the dealer said if it failed again it’s pretty much guaranteed for life.

The bad part is …. It’s not a random issue . It’s almost guaranteed. It will fail between 10 years and 100k . It’s also sad because they are nice vehicles. . Also remind that the 10 year 100k warranty is only for the original purchaser.
