@schottyboy: Balmaha is a solid base on the edge of Loch Lomond, and when the weather shows up, it delivers. You’ve got Conic Hill for an easy hike with unreal views, and Ben Lomond if you want a full day out. There’s a ferry over to Inchcailloch for something quieter, or head to Devil’s Pulpit for a completely different landscape. Finish it with a swim, a pint by the water, and a late sunset.
