think about this..."the only mistake a human being makes consistently is believing we have more time. Time can be taken any second.

The number of people who have never heard of Alon Flake and his book is genuinely crazy. If you want to understand what's actually going on right now, you have to read this. It's almost like the guy came from the future to warn us.

I’ve been a consultant vascular surgeon now for 26 years- after 16 years of training for that - I realised 22 years ago I needed better work life balance and moved to New Zealand. Sure I still worked hard and many nights at work saving a life or limb, but also nothing like the time and loss of quality of life had I stayed in London. My kids were 9 months and 3 years old when I made the move - never regretted it. Don’t let your life slip away and not enjoy it and have fun with family and friends. No-one says I wish I had another day at work on my deathbed! find the level that works for you and don’t be pushed into doing more. You won’t miss the extra money from working killer hours. Having a life outside of the job we do is priceless.

I’m a single mom that went back to school in her 40s. I work in the mental health side of the hospital. I kept saying similar things, I just need to do ______. My son died a couple months ago, I wish we had done more fun things together. Life is short. Have fun now.

25 years in to my medical career, owned a medical clinic, was getting burnt out, sold it all and moved to New Zealand to practice. Now I make 1/2 my previous salary, but walk the beach most mornings, have lunch every day with my wife, and have SO much off-time. TOTALLY worth it.

💯 thought being a doctor of PT was enough then felt like I needed to become a manager, then corporate, and the work never ended. So I finally decided to take a sabbatical next year

I think it's all perspective. I always tried to allow myself to live and enjoy despite the pressures. It was the only way I could keep myself energized and motivated. And everyone is different. But live your life friend, you have earned it ❤️

Medical training conditions people to delay happiness. Every few years, there’s another milestone—med school, residency, fellowship—teaching you that fulfillment comes after the next step. As goals grow more demanding, satisfaction keeps getting postponed, creating an endless cycle where enjoying the present feels harder than chasing the next achievement.

Sadly this is how life goes for many. I know in the medical field and other careers that require so much school and training it’s even more extreme, but so many just live the “some day” life, when the some day is now.

I don’t believe that this only pertains to the medical field. Everyone has a “when this happens “ and it always seems as though there is another “when” but there isn’t ever the life.

It’s like this for all careers…most of us just don’t go to school that long and/or don’t have as intense of schedules. It’s true as a special needs parent too. It’s a lesson for everyone. MAKE TIME & plan for fun. Always have something (small or big) to look forward. At least in the medical field you’re ACTUALLY making a difference while working not just clickity clacking on a computer for “shareholder value”. Just gotta keep living! I hope you have amazing fun experiences in your life - YOU DESERVE IT

We were raised on a dangerous illusion:
that life is long, and time is generous. So we postpone joy, delay taking the leap, and tuck away our dreams for “later.” But later is a fragile promise without guarantee. The reality is that the only life you have is the one you’re either living now or wasting. Delayed gratification was embedded into our mind and, unknowingly, it was the thief of joy and time.
