@downtoinvest: Why does the stock market recover so fast now? Passive investing changed everything. $10.1 trillion sits in 401k plans and 2 out of every 3 contribution dollars goes straight into index funds on a payroll schedule, no emotion, no market timing, just consistent buying every two weeks. 61% of plans now auto-enroll employees. 45% of participants increased contributions in 2025. That's a constant floor of buying pressure that didn't exist at this scale before. The market structure is different. Dips get bought faster because there are more automatic buyers than ever. 401k passive investing, buying the dip explained, why market recovers fast, index fund investing strategy, stock market corrections retail investors #LearnOnTikTok #financialliteracy #TikTokLearningCampaign

Yes - I’ve been thinking this as well. I wonder if the crash comes with significant unemployment (less 401k contributions). But even then, in the K-shaped economy, the people at the top of the K still will have lots of assets to deploy to “buy the dip.” In summary, even if the 401k contributions falter from because of unemployment, the buy the dip mentality will keep the crash from being as terrible or prolonged.

I have not heard anybody else make this argument previously and I absolutely think this is an excellent point.

This is such a good take and I’ve never thought of it that way. But its true, a lot of people definitely think of the dip as everything being on “sale” and it incentivizes them buy even more!

Also think about those people who own their home outright or have significant equity. They are re-directing that housing payment somewhere.
