she may have used the wrong term... but this is basic supply and demand - bringing the price down increases demand, which in the oil industry (especially right now, while supply is low and we are moving towards a shortage) WILL cause gas prices to go up.

even if the govt did lower taxes, who's to say big business will lower the consumer product? their profit would go up and they'd just get richer. they wont lower prices when they know people are still willing to pay the prices.
