We woke up at 6am, had to be at school by 6:30am in high school, finished around 9:45pm. Then went home and did homework until 12 or 12:30 because I couldn't even finish it at school. Grades were publicly posted on the wall so everyone saw your exact ranking. Not much teamwork or sports. Mainly just studying and studying. Later I also studied in the UK, US, and Australia. Many Chinese international students like myself were not naturally comfortable with team projects and debating. But the intense system made me great at grinding long hours and solving problems before taking a break. Super useful in startups, but of course we also burn out easily. A good balance is key. No experience was wasted. Reaching the middle ground between discipline and teamwork is much better for founders and top performers in corporate. Extreme either way isn't good, and getting to know different backgrounds gives you a new perspective on life.
