Ford hasn't removed them, they just aren't hooked up to anything. 4wd is turned on with an actuator in the diff area now. So the IWE's are there, not doing anything, but can STILL fail and need replacement.

You’re wrong. Vacuum unlocks the IWE. The absence of vacuum locks it

Also if you can find the tsb from ford it says to cap the vacuum lines and reprogram the transfer case control module. Basically locks in the iwe’s full time

I’m sure it’s different for the f150 (compared to the f250 I’m about to reference), but you should look into doing slugs instead of replacing the vacuum actuators. Vacuum anything will always be a failure point because materials will deteriorate over time.
