If you’ve been doing the typical neck stretch without relief, you might be missing a key piece of the muscle’s function. 💡 What’s happening? The levator scapula connects your shoulder blade to your neck. It pulls your head to the side and rotates your shoulder blade downward — so if the shoulder blade isn’t positioned right, you won’t fully stretch it. 🔥 Why this matters Most stretches miss the shoulder blade. If it’s not rotated upward first, the muscle never gets a full stretch — so the pain keeps coming back. 🛠️ Exercises to release the muscle 1.) Overhead stretch Bring your arm overhead to rotate the shoulder blade up, then pull your head to the side for a full stretch. 2.) Contract-relax Shrug your shoulder up and push into your hand for ~10 seconds, then relax. 3.) Deeper stretch After the contraction, bring the arm overhead again and stretch further while the muscle is fatigued. Getting the position right helps fully release the muscle and reduce that shoulder pain. #shoulderpain #neckpain #mobility #physicaltherapy #posture
