It would be nice to see more schools let students choose a career pathway, especially in high school, and fully immerse them in it from 9th through 12th grade. Teach the core skills they need for that path instead of expecting every student to follow the same roadmap. Make school a launchpad for life, not a race to pass standardized tests.

I agree with this, that's why our son is homeschooled. I struggled in math... I just didn't get it. but as an adult I learned the math I needed to run my small business. it's easier to learn something when you want to and when it actually fits in with certain needs. I did summer school almost every year, stayed after class... just didn't understand it. but as an adult I can pick and choose what I learn and use it in the real world

agree. the whole system must be redesigned redone, reinvented, reasablished. bring back the things that worked. original math, cursive writing, life skills, real books.

I couldn’t agree more. Ive been a teacher assistant for 26 years. I’m retiring early this June because I can’t stand what school is doing to our children any longer.

One thing is to remember what President Kennedy said about going to the moon if we do not understand why he said this in those times. Understanding history also helps what is happening today. Among other things. Math is also everywhere. Physics is everywhere. And Without chemistry there is no clothing detergent.

The Finnish system is absolutely great. There isn't a day that I don't use my reading-, listening-, writing-, thinking-, language-, mathematic- or social skills. And yes, these are skills taught in school. The problem is way larger than the school system. Society has changed and so have the rules. Study hard, work hard and have a great job and a great life.... that's gone. Kids end up with debt from studying and probably won't have a job and a place of their own. Why learn if you haven't got any prospects? Let's not just compare the school systems but also the future prospects.
