🚨 Handling being dumped on👇 ▶️ Such a horrible feeling when someone leaves and then the company decides not to replace them and instead load more work onto other team members. ▶️ I know these situations can be infuriating and it’s hard not to get defensive and argue the case for why it’s unfair. Of course you can do this, the chances are though they’ll pull rank and you’ll be left with little room for negotiation. If you’re in a situation where you think you can negotiate pay/ extra resource then go for it. If not, I’d recommend doing the following 3 things as shown in this video: 1️⃣ Show willingness to support BUT highlight your current workload situation to your manager and the negative consequences/ risk if you take on more. It’s important to link this to something that will impact the company negatively. For example losing clients. 2️⃣ Clarify that they want to avoid this negative consequence/risk: “Am I right in thinking we want to avoid this?” This can be a very effective way to make it difficult for them to say no to number 3… 3️⃣ Ask them if you can go through your workload together and agree what parts of your workload can be paused to enable you to take on this extra work and avoid the negative consequence/ risk. “Can we sit down, look at my workload together and agree together what projects I can pause to allow me to take on some of Steve’s projects instead. When would be a good time to do that?” This can be an effective way of avoiding more work simply being dumped on you. 📌 Please be mindful this video offers one possible approach. It will not fit every situation- if it doesn’t feel right for your situation ignore it. Do what feels right for you. 💬 Share a 👏 in the comments if you found this helpful 👀 #worktips #leadershipdevelopment #corporatelife #emotionalintelligence #manager #boundaries #communication #communicationskills #managingpeople #difficultconversations #assertive #assertivecommunication
