These are the 5 steps to unlock any calisthenics skill: 1. Master the starting position. Build strength, stability, and connective tissue by perfecting the foundation of the exercise. High plank for pushups, active hang for pullups, dip support hold for dips, and so on. 2. Introduce limited range. Use partial reps to build strength in controlled ranges of motion. Progressively expand the range over time instead of repeating the same limited movement forever. 3. Use negatives. Slow and controlled eccentrics are one of the most effective ways to unlock new exercises and build control through full range. 4. Build concentric strength. Once negatives become clean and controlled, begin building the full movement through quality repetitions and assisted variations. 5. Increase the range. After achieving around 8 clean full ROM reps, start increasing range further through deficit variations and deeper range exercises.
