Harvey Willgoose, a 15-year-old pupil described by his family as "warm, funny and caring," lost his life earlier this year following an incident at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield. The tragedy, which happened during a lunch break on 3 February 2025, sent shockwaves through the community and reignited national concern about kn!fe crime among young people. Harvey was att@ck€d by 15-year-old Mohammed Umar Khan in the school courtyard after a disagreement between the pair, who had previously been friends. The ass@!lant had brought a kn!fe into school that day, and during the confrontation, used it against Harvey. Despite the efforts of teachers and emergency services, Harvey sadly di€d a short time later. During a five-week trial at Sheffield Crown Court, Umar Khan admitted m@nsl@ughter and carrying a kn!fe, but denied murd€r. He claimed he had taken the w€@pon to school out of fear after being bull!€d. Prosecutors argued that the att@ck was intentional, presenting evidence of his growing interest in w€@pons and vi0l£nt content online. The jury found him guilty of murd€r by a majority verdict on 8 August 2025. On 22 October 2025, Umar Khan was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years. In her remarks, Mrs Justice Lambert said he had "turned a trivial teenage dispute into a tragedy," adding that his decision to bring a kn!fe to school had devastating consequences for everyone involved. Following the sentencing, Harvey's parents said their son's d€ath had left an "unfillable hole" in their lives. "Harvey was kind, funny and full of life," they said. "He should have had his whole future ahead of him. We will never stop missing him."
