@nofret_egypt_: Esna Temple The hypostyle hall of the Temple of Temple of Esna was mainly constructed during the Roman period, especially under emperors such as Claudius and Decius. It is the only surviving part of the temple, dedicated to the ram-headed creator god Khnum. The hall consists of 24 large columns arranged in rows, each with richly varied floral capitals inspired by Nile vegetation. The ceiling is covered with detailed astronomical scenes, including zodiac signs, planetary deities, and decans, illustrating the cosmic order and the passage of time. The inscriptions are extensive and exceptionally detailed, preserving late hieroglyphic texts that record rituals, hymns, and theological concepts centered on Khnum and associated deities. These texts are among the most important sources for understanding temple theology in the Greco-Roman period. Recent restorations have removed thick layers of soot and grime, revealing remarkably well-preserved colors.
