The way they think Europeans wanting to walk a stadium deserves them being run over sums up their mentality over there..

The point is not that we want to walk across a highway, it’s that there should be infrastructure available for it to happen

As far as I can see there was one tweet which barstool sports picked up on. Then some Europeans went “wow it’s kinda bad urban planning you can’t walk to the stadium, parking is $300 and the train is 700% more for the game” to which a bunch of Americans have started going “you europoors can’t understand how shit our infrastructure is, which we’re kinda proud of. I’ve fantasised about you being killed by a a New Jersey driver”

The head of transportation for NJ has said they are only selling 40,000 transportation tickets for the 80,000 tickets. What are 40,000 people supposed to do? You can’t walk, you can’t take public transportation? I doubt the MetLife area hotels have 40,000 spaces in them?? This is legitimately the worst World Cup to ever exist

I don’t even think anyone ever meant “I can walk there” as in actually gonna do it, it’s more like the distance that’s easily walkable and SHOULD be 😭😭 idc that your infrastructure is made for cars only, it shouldn’t be. Only being able to park there is INSANE

the whole walking to the stadium thing struck me as just fans making a point of how bad the planning for transport and access to stadiums for this world cup is. locals to the metlife stadium and other stadiums have taken it a bit too literally. like you think the infrastructure is bad and car dependent, so do we, it’s one of the many gripes we have with the usa. that’s why it’s ridiculous to walk, which is why people have concluded that they might try in order to prove that point. correct me if i’m wrong but that’s how i’ve understood all this

I’m still very confused a) they built a football stadium in a swamp b) there are swamps in New Jersey c) about what a swamp actually is (my only frame of reference is swamp thing and shrek 😂)

Mind you.. the ONE person they’re talking about said he would get the train to Rutherford and walk from there.. which does involved crossing the i95.. at the pedestrian bridge crossing 🤣

Americans are so defensive and attack because of it. Also, MetLife is located in such a weird place. A town in NJ? When the NY teams play there? No wonder people are confused. And leaving via transit or ride shares is a mess for Giants and Jets games. Imagine the chaos when it’s mostly tourists!

usually for big events in germany with your ticket for your event is free public transport included so it's flabbergasting that they want 150 for a usually 13 dollar ticket

but saying "why is it built like that?" is a bit pointless if you're talking about accessing the world cup. yes we could give a history lesson on NJ, but really what people want is a free ride/ walkable option to met life, and unfortunately that's not going to happen... not anytime remotely soon. like it's just not.

i only saw a post on twt, but i honestly understood it more as a reaction to the $150 train tickets 💀 like in a "these prices are a joke, ppl are gonna start walking with tickets that expensive" way, and somehow, ppl took that wayyy too seriously

I do think it’s crazy that the only way to get there is to drive or pay an extortionate price for public transport it’s really bad planning to not have a walkable entrance
